Things to do around Whipstock:

  • Apart from the area hiking trails – The Rooikat, Boesmanskloof – there are different walks on the farm.

  • Swimming, canoeing and fishing (when available) on the Whipstock dam with clear mountain water.

  • Commons room with a TV, lounge, fireplace and the Talking Bull Pub, named in honour of Brutus, the sire and squire of the farm. (We are not licensed so bring your own.)

  • Billiards (in an adults only lounge area)

  • Vrolijkheid Nature Reserve lies close to the village with birds a-plenty. There is a bird hide on the edge of the water. The Rooikat Trail in the reserve is a day hike and is particularly beautiful in late August and September.

  • Hiking Trails - Boesmanskloof is the most popular. The Boesmanskloof Trail is 16km to Greyton. Hikers coming from Greyton can be fetched at trail end 7kms from Whipstock. (McGregor lies another 7kms down from the farm.) Alternatively only the McGregor side of the trail can be hiked to the waterfall and rock pool (good swimming). It’s approximately four hours then, there and back. Permits are available through Cape Nature.
